Faculty of Humanities, Chiang Mai University

The Faculty of Humanities at Chiang Mai University (CMU) is one of Northern Thailand’s most respected faculties, offering diverse programs in languages, culture, and humanities. With a mission to provide students and researchers with better access to information, the faculty aimed to modernize its digital presence and create a more user-friendly experience for everyone.

The Problem

The faculty’s previous website, built on PHP, faced several limitations:

  • No multilingual support for international students
  • Outdated design and structure, making information harder to find
  • A lack of flexibility for managing and updating content
  • No streamlined way to download essential documents

The faculty needed a modern, accessible, and easy-to-use platform that supported multiple languages and offered a seamless user experience.

The Challenge

This project was special because it combined real-world development with mentorship. Most of the development work was carried out by interns from Chiang Mai University, supported by our Manao Software experts.

Key challenges included:

  • Training students who had limited technical experience
  • Delivering a simple yet flexible design that could adapt to future needs
  • Coordinating closely with the client to ensure smooth progress

With Assistant Professor Dr. Chaiwat Nantasri, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Chiang Mai University, acting as the primary decision-maker, we were able to make timely decisions and maintain an efficient workflow throughout the project.

Industry of the Client

Education & Public Sector
This project required balancing academic needs, user experience, and technical efficiency, ensuring the website supported students, faculty, and the wider research community.

Technologies Used

We upgraded the platform to a modern tech stack that focused on performance, flexibility, and usability:

  • Frontend: ReactJS
  • Backend & CMS: Strapi
  • Languages Supported: Thai, English, and Chinese

This combination allowed the faculty to manage content more efficiently and deliver a better experience for students and visitors.

The Solution

Manao Software collaborated closely with the Faculty of Humanities to create a simple, modern, and flexible website. The development approach focused on mentoring student interns, enabling them to gain hands-on experience while working alongside industry experts.

Highlights of the solution:

  • Clean, User-Friendly Design: Simplified navigation and improved readability
  • Multilingual Support: Added Thai, English, and Chinese for broader accessibility
  • Enhanced Content Management: Integrated Strapi CMS for easy updates and uploads
  • Seamless Document Access: Allowed students and faculty to download files directly

This project reflects our mission to support the local tech ecosystem — by helping students develop real-world skills, empowering the university with modern technology, and contributing to the growth of Northern Thailand’s educational landscape.
